goHomePort Team Build Day at Veterans Community Project Held on September 20, 2023

On September 20, 2023, a team from goHomePort participated in a House Construction Build Day at the Veterans Community Project (VCP) tiny home community, which is currently in both the continued funding and building phases on a 2-acre property, just across the street from goHomePort - Andersen location at 451 S. Andersen Street in Longmont, CO. As the VCP property neighbors the goHomePort - Andersen RV & Boat Storage facility and onsite RV repair shop, the goHomePort team unanimously wanted to support our neighbors and community.

Fifteen volunteers from goHomePort showed up and put hardhats on to help veterans of the U.S. military transitioning out of homelessness. We had team members shoveling and moving dirt. Another set of team members went to work measuring, cutting and installing soffits or siding on the tiny homes. Some of the goHomePort team took part in painting exteriors of the homes.

The weather was perfect, but hot!— and lunch was brown bags and hearing about the work and mission of Veterans Community Project from their Executive Director, Jennifer Seybold. The heart of their mission has a holistic approach to case management and includes services like counseling and vocational rehabilitation. All of this is offered in a beautifully designed tiny home neighborhood to empower the residents to become their own community with support and camaraderie as they transition out of homelessness.

To continue showing our support for Veterans Community Project, goHomePort sponsored the Bier, Band, and Brats event on the following Saturday, September 23, 2023. It was held in Niwot, Colorado at a private residence, with a live polka band, silent auction, great food and supportive people. That event raised an additional $50,000 for Veterans Community Project, a nice bump toward their next $600,000 goal.
