4 Great Colorado Destinations to Visit in Your RV This Fall
Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons in Colorado, no matter where you are in the state. And it’s also the best time of year to take your RV out for one last adventure before storing it for the winter. But with so many beautiful destinations to choose from, picking the perfect location for your last RV trip of the year can be tough. Here are a few great places to hit up on your next excursion that will let you take advantage of the off-season.
  1. Black Canyon of the Gunnison
    Black Canyon of the Gunnison is located just outside of Montrose, CO. The canyon itself features stunning geology that you can admire from scenic overlooks along the rim or get close to on one of the many hiking trails. 
    The amenities are minimal, but if you’re comfortable camping without hookups or can get by with electric hookups only, you’ll find it relatively easy to secure a spot. If the campgrounds in the park are full, Montrose has several RV parks with full hookups to choose from.
     
  2. Ouray
    Ouray is well-known for its hot springs, and what better time to visit than fall when it’s cool enough to enjoy even the hottest hot spring without getting too warm? The town is a destination for RVers and has many campgrounds that can accommodate small trailers and large busses alike. 
    Even better, you’ll be able to enjoy the vibrant yellows, reds, and golds of changing leaves if you book your trip in October and early November. 
     
  3. Telluride
    Telluride is one of the most popular ski destinations in the state, but it’s also beautiful during the fall shoulder season when tourists are sparse. There are dozens of delicious restaurants, fantastic entertainment venues, craft breweries, and of course hundreds of hiking opportunities in the area. 
    You’ll be able to catch the fall colors in early-to-mid October and can camp at one of the campgrounds nearby. Keep in mind that some of these campgrounds may be a bit of a drive away, but it’s well worth the trip!
     
  4. Mesa Verde
    If you love looking at history up close, Mesa Verde won’t disappoint. Located in Southern Colorado near Cortez, temperatures can be too warm to comfortably enjoy your trip during the summer months, but they’re perfect in fall. Once in the park, you can tour ancient ruins of the ancestral Puebloan people and learn more about their culture from the park rangers on guided tours.
    Unfortunately, there are no campgrounds in the park, but there are many in Cortez, Dolores, and Towaoc to choose from. Even better, these campgrounds have full hookups and can accommodate RVs of all sizes.
